The riders prepare for a long, strenuous ride in. Accompanying the riders are Cliff and Annie, two riders from 2007.

Today we visited the San Juan Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Farmington, New Mexico.

After the long, strenuous 150 feet ride, Cliff, Luke, and Abel take a break to catch their breath and wipe away the immense amount of sweat before they have to give speeches. With a few miles under his belt, Abel has finally figured out how to work his laser sight. Too bad he missed and made his right cycling cleat explode. With Abel now sporting blue socks with a white shoe, Luke really does think he’s older than dirt.

Ena (CEO) welcomed the riders into the facility and warned Luke not to take any food away from the patients. His reputation as a bottomless pit precedes him.

Farmington’s mayor, Bill Standley, has heard that AJ is a master of teaching the “here’s the church, here’s the steeple” hand game and tries to one-up her by adding a hand clasp at the end.

After Mayor Standley accused Cliff of stealing all the bedpans, Cliff points the riders and says, “I don’t even know these guys but I know they did it. See their beady eyes?” Too bad he forgot he was wearing the same jersey as them. Guilty by association.

AJ was wondering what this event was all about. When she read the banner she found that the facility was welcoming the amputees acrerica.

In a display of all her princess-ly splendor, AJ puts her hand on her hip and demands to know who took her sunglasses

Luke, bored by all the old people’s speeches, decides to give a refresher lesson on how to give a wedgie. Nobody volunteers to be his wedgie dummy, though, so he has to give one to himself.

AJ attempts to sweet-talk Joe into giving her his prosthetic arm complete with a hook so she can show Luke how to give an atomic wedgie.

Rosalia and her therapist Tina are laying down on the job. At least they look like they’re having a good time.

Our gracious hosts, Annie and Cliff, pose for a picture. Cliff is caught red-handed while holding one of the new-fangled bedpans that was stolen

Rosemary takes a minute out of her day to pose for a picture with the cutest rider. Thanks go out to Rosemary for getting everything together for the visit today!

Abel, secure in his old-man-hood, shows off his blue socks and white shoes. We’re sure he’ll be moving into a retirement home in Boca Raton, Florida any day now whereupon he’ll make purchase of numerous pairs of polyester pants and Hawaiian flowered dress shirts that will match perfectly with his blue socks and white shoes.

Our thanks to Dr Carletta Hill Thompson and the entire staff of the SanJuan Regional Rehabilitation Hospital for their warm welcome and to Dr Clifford and Annie Clark who opened their home and hearts to us and allowed Luke to sleep on their doorstep.  Farmington is more than a community... it is a way of life that welcomes strangers and cares for their own.
