Yesterday, Cliff came up lame from a piece of gravel that Joe inserted into Cliff's liner.  With a smile on his face, Joe prepares to take Cliff's place on the road, letting Cliff and Annie do all of the driving while Joe gets to do all of the riding.  Unfortunately, Cliff  contracted a rare tropical infection indigenous to desert and tropical regions.  Joe's plan starts to fall apart when Cliff has to take convalescent leave in Albuquerque and rejoin the ride in ten days.  With a heavy heart, Joe watches Cliff take Annie, the only support driver with him,  leaving Joe alone and despondent to drive the remaining riders.

Since Joe is suffering,  with no riding relief in sight, he makes sure that the suffering is spread evenly throughout the riding group.  What were downhills, suddenly become uphills.  Rest breaks are taken every two  hours whether the riders need them or not.

Beas and Abel are seen here beginning a ride down a seven degree sloped hill for 14 miles going into Bullhead City on the Colorado River.

Beas has discovered a strange fear of leprechauns and little people.  Both Abel and Joe begin to worry. Abel tells Beas about  Joe's comments that wrestling is a feminine sport.  Abel watches as Beas loads his bike and climbs into the truck with Joe.

Abel looks over his shoulder in relief seeing Beas in the cab of the truck with his hands around Joe's throat.

With the wind at his back, Abel continues his descent.

Esconced in front of our plush luxury suite in Wikieup, Arizona, Abel watches lizards, snakes, and Joe continuing to evade the clutches of Beas.
